Today, CM to meet with Mirchi Yard traders.

Amaravati: Due to the falling prices of mirchi (chili), farmers are expressing their concerns. With the entry of both ruling and opposition leaders, the issue of mirchi prices has turned political. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has already brought the plight of the mirchi farmers to the attention of the central government. Today, he is set to meet with officials and traders of the Mirchi Yard to discuss the necessary actions that need to be taken in light of the price crash.

It is estimated that mirchi was cultivated over 5 lakh acres this year, with trade groups already purchasing 4 lakh metric tons out of the total 12 lakh metric tons. The government is looking to ensure a fair price for the remaining 8 lakh metric tons. With prices falling to unprecedented levels, political criticism and pleas from farmers have brought the issue to the forefront. In this scenario, the state government has stepped in to take action.

In the meantime, CM Chandrababu Naidu assured that the government would take steps to support the mirchi farmers. Speaking to the media in Delhi, he mentioned that he had urged a central minister to provide assistance to the farmers. "We have brought to the attention of the central minister the need to support farmers and determine prices based on realistic calculations of cultivation costs," he said. He also pointed out that the Market Intervention Scheme offers only 25% support, but this is done without considering the cost of cultivation in Andhra Pradesh. He has asked for a revision of the price determination process based on actual cultivation costs.
